Roof Replacement

Deciding on a roof replacement for your home is a big decision, one that Mill Creek Roofing fully understands. There are two basic options available once you have decided to replace your roof:
  1. You can choose to replace the roof system entirely, which means the existing roof system must be torn off.
  2. Or, you may opt to re-cover the existing roof system, which would only require installing a new roof system.
However, many building codes stipulate only one roof system re-cover is allowed before replacement is necessary.

Roof replacement process

There are other things to consider:
  • What is the best time of year to carry out a roof replacement?
  • Is it weather depending?
  • How long will it take?
  • Do you need to vacate the premises?

A typical roofing job for an average size house takes about two to three days, unless there is harsh weather or unforeseen problems. The roofing is done during the day when most people are at work. Tearing off an existing roof and constructing a new roofing system is a big job that requires a work crew, and tends to create a lot of noise. However, it is perfectly fine for you to remain at home during the day if you don’t mind the noise of the construction on the roof.

If you plan on being at home while the roof is being installed, and you have kids, it is helpful to explain to them the process of getting your roof replaced and to make sure that they are not in the areas where the crews are working. When the existing roof is being torn off there will be a lot of material falling off all sides of the house and it is dangerous for kids to be outside and close to the home during those times. Our work crews are respectful of your property, treat your home and yard with care, and clean up after themselves and the construction.

In regards to pets, it may be a good idea to keep them inside the home while the crew is working because strangers making lots of noise around the home can be troubling and agitating for most animals. If the pet is sensitive to noise, you may want to find an inner, quiet spot in the home for it, or take it somewhere for the day while the construction is taking place.
